Practitioners as Teachers: Effective Strategies for Teaching in the Health Sciences
Although this book was designed specifically for students in health science programs, it can be useful to anyone who is interested in learning about some basic educational practices and strategies that can be helpful with clients. We begin by taking a look at ourselves and coming to more clearly understand how we, ourselves, learn. This is important since we tend to teach in the same ways we learn best. From there, we learn how to teach learners (clients or students) who do not necessarily learn in the same way we do. Among other things, we examine some key learning theories to guide us in our work with clients, how to plan an instructional session with clients, proper ways to demonstrate procedures with clients, questioning techniques, how to assess our clients, teaching psychomotor skills, and use of models and analogies. Overall, the intent of the book is to help health practitioners learn how to be more humane with their clients so they can help their clients progress toward better health. Book length: 289 pages.
